נביII, נָבָא (b. h.; cmp. נָבַע) to burst forth, blow. Nif. נִיבָּא to be inspired, to prophesy. Snh.39b יבא … ויִנָּבֵא עלוכ׳ let Obadiah come … and prophesy against ; a. e. Hithpa. הִתְנַבֵּא, Nithpa. נִתְנַבֵּא same. Ex. R. s. 4 כמה … שלא להִתְנַבְּאוֹת ונ׳וכ׳ how much Jeremiah desired not to be a prophet, and yet he prophesied against his will. Sot.12b נִתְנַבְּאָה שלא מדעתה she prophesied unwittingly. Ib. מִתְנַבְּאָה ואינהוכ׳ she prophesied but did not know what she prophesied.
